How We Started

Since 1984, the Murray County Foundation and its donors have been devoted to supporting Murray County, Minnesota, by funding scholarships and community initiatives.

The Foundation’s roots go back to 1985 when a scholarship program was started in memory of Wayne Onken, an outstanding student, a farmer, and an inspirational leader. Wayne’s wife funded the first scholarship and the program has steadily grown.

In 2007, members of the Slayton High School Class of 1964 incorporated the Foundation.

In 2018, the Foundation’s scope was broadened to include additional tribute scholarships in a variety of fields, and charitable programs to enhance the quality of life for the people of Murray County.

Our Programs and Projects

It is the intent of the Murray County Foundation to be an active organization that initiates, manages, and administers programs and projects consistent with its Mission and Purpose.
